Abbott Secures Three Leading UK Workplace Accolades Including Top 10 Best WorkplaceTM For Women in 2020

  • Ranked at #7 by Great Place to Work® UK in the 2020 Best WorkplaceTM for Women Super Large category
  • Great Place to Work® recognises Abbott as a UK Centre for Excellence in Wellbeing
  • Top Employer Institute ranks Abbott #4 for its workplace culture

MAIDENHEAD, Berkshire, 10th December 2020 — Global healthcare leader Abbott, which employs over 1,500 people across the UK, has been awarded three prestigious accolades reflecting its working culture and commitment to UK employees, including ranking in Britain's top 10 Best WorkplaceTM for Women for 2020.

Great Place to Work - Best Workplace
Workplace culture consultancy Great Place to Work® UK ranked Abbott #7 in the 2020 Best WorkplaceTM for Women in the Super Large category. The accolade was given for its commitments to advancing careers for women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Great Place to Work – UK Centre for Excellence in Wellbeing
Great Place to Work® also recognised Abbott as a UK Centre for Excellence in Wellbeing, thanks to its enhanced wellbeing programs and offerings designed to help Abbott's UK employees be their healthiest. These include regular Pilates and Zumba classes as well as mental health awareness initiatives.

Both honours awarded by Great Place to Work® followed a rigorous evaluation process focused on the employee experience. A survey based on levels of trust assessed Abbott's culture to understand what is actually being experienced by Abbott employees. Abbott scored particularly high on fair treatment (89%), levels of engagement (85%) and empowerment and accountability (84%). These attributes, alongside programs that promote wellbeing, are among the top reasons Abbott has been recognised as a top employer for women for the first time.

Top Employer Institute – UK Top Employer
The manufacturer of medical devices and healthcare products has also been recognised as a 2020 UK Top Employer by Top Employer Institute, the global authority on recognising excellence in people practices. The Institute ranked Abbott #4 for its workplace culture, which values healthy living, diversity and equal opportunity.

Les Muggeridge, UK Human Resources Director at Abbott, said: "We're delighted to have secured such great recognition for our efforts to ensure all our people feel rewarded and recognised in an inclusive work environment. Our work this year has focused on supporting patients and customers who have relied on us and our life-changing technologies more than ever in recent months. It has been vital for our staff to stay connected, respected and valued as they have risen to this challenge.

"At Abbott, we promote equitable career opportunities and have put diversity at the heart of our organisational planning for many years, to improve how we recruit candidates, support the career journeys of our employees and continue to develop our leadership through diverse perspectives."

Abbott has invested heavily in advancing the careers of women in STEM. For example, Claire Bhogal, Director of Research & Development at Abbott's diabetes care business site in Witney, Oxfordshire, has worked at Abbott for over 22 years, advancing in her career since joining as a statistician in 1998. Claire also spearheads the Women Leaders of Abbott and Women in STEM employee networks in the UK.

Bhogal's work includes the personal development of individual staff members through organisation of cross-functional networking opportunities and events and activities that inspire and grow women into future leaders within the company.

Claire Bhogal said: "At Abbott, we work with local schools and community organisations to show young people how pursuing STEM subjects can lead to a rewarding and exciting career. I am proud to work for a company that believes in opportunities for everyone and actively encourages their employees to maximise their potential."
