ABOUT ABBOTT
Take the first step toward an extraordinary future.
Abbott in the UK offers students the ability to work in a dynamic environment to develop their professional career. We address some of the biggest challenges for health, and the work you undertake will be in relevant functions, giving your real-life development opportunities and experiences. Internships are available across various functions, including engineering, science, finance, and commercial areas. Our internship opportunities are advertised on the careers website and via various partner universities, and should form part of your academic studies as a year-in-industry placement.
From the beginning, our interns work on meaningful, challenging projects with direct impact on our business.
Interns have regular access to senior leadership and the opportunity to grow and learn from the best each day.
We invest in future leaders. We provide interns with targeted training, a global intern community and the opportunity to create their own networks that they can leverage for decades.
We champion leadership, and we offer benefits that help interns lead fuller lives both inside and outside of the office.
Abbott offers a wealth of opportunities to graduates across varying fields of expertise in both graduate scheme style roles and also functional positions. All opportunities can be found advertised on our careers site. Roles include:
The Global Operations Professional Development Program is structured to provide PDPs with broad growth and development through breadth and depth of operations experience. Assignments are often designed to be "stretch roles" with a steep learning curve for participants. Over the course of three years, PDPs will engage in three critical experiences to accelerate their learning and set themselves up for a successful career.
Our manufacturing facility in Witney offers 2 local graduate schemes, 1 targeting STEM consisting of 6 rotations of 6 months each, and the other targeting systems engineering consisting of 2 rotations of 12-18 months each.
As well as graduate schemes, Abbott also offers the opportunity for graduates to enter directly into business roles. Opportunities at this level span a number of divisions, and include technologist, scientist, associate clinical specialist, associate territory manager, technical service specialist, and associate engineer.
"Throughout my internship with the medical business at Abbott, I gained exposure to our commercial, marketing and educations teams. This provided me with a broad insight into our industry that was unique to my internship experience. Witnessing first-hand the passion for patient care shown in all aspects of our business is what solidified that Abbott was the place for me. I am now working as a cardiac rhythm management clinical specialist." Eden, Former Intern; Current Clinical Specialist, UK
"I worked in multidisciplinary teams to perform validation testing. We tested the functionality of machines and production lines before they were used in production to ensure they operated correctly. These projects were invaluable experiences and helped develop my engineering and professional skills." Elisha, Former Operations Engineering Intern, Witney UK
"Throughout my internship I covered areas in commercial, marketing and education with a major project being the development of a Confirm Rx troubleshooting brochure. The skills I learned with this were invaluable in securing a full time job with Abbott post university as a Confirm Rx clinical specialist helping patients stay connected to their health and getting timely diagnosis for any cardiac arrhythmias. From this role, I have now moved in to a territory manager position." Tom, Former CRM Intern; Current Territory Manager, UK
"I have been absolutely blown away by the high calibre of CRM interns that I have been lucky to have worked with over the last 5 years. They have not only brought energy and fresh insight into our team, but they have also brought an unbiased perspective on our business which has helped to deliver on various projects. We have seen interns confidently delivering presentations to the whole division and also take lead roles in developing and delivering new internal training programmes.Anna, Manager, CRM Device Specialist Training
"Student interns are very important for Abbott. It is a long-term commitment for the company – in the UK we have been employing student interns for as long as I have been with the company – which is over 22 years! We truly value the contribution that our interns bring and aim to ensure that they have a rewarding experience which sets them up for a future career. It demonstrates the success of our scheme that we have had a number of interns return and be employed full time. Claire, Director, UK Diabetes Care Research and Development Team
